Wet or Dry?
All shooting ranges designed by Savage Range Systems incorporate the Snail® Trap. This environmentally safe method of capturing bullets virtually eliminates lead dust at the Bullet Stop, reducing health hazards for both shooters and range personnel. All systems are available in a wet or dry configuration, for indoor or outdoor use. Dry Snail Traps, however, may be more suitable for outdoor applicvations. The dry system uses no lubrication and relys on the revolving bullet, within the deceleration chamber, to slowly lose energy and drop down into a slot, for collection. For the dry system, we offer two methods of bullet collection. The direct DOT containerization system allows rounds to be deposited directly into DOT certified containers. An optional conveyor system is available, as well. This brings the mostly intact bullets to a single, convenient point for easy disposal or recycling, with minimal handling. The dry system is a variation of the wet system. Our patented Universal System allows you to convert a dry system to a wet system at a later date. When designing an outdoor system which may eventually be moved indoors or enclosed, a Universal system is recommended. The wet system incorporates a proprietary Snail® Lubricating liquid throughout the system. The Snail lubricating fluid flows across the upper portion of the lower entrance ramp and is sprayed in the deceleration chamber. The fluid reduces friction between the bullet and trap surfaces, virtually eliminating the generation of lead dust. Any dust that may be generated is captured by the liquid, preventing it from becoming airborne. A reservoir system, liquid return lines, in-line filters and impeller pumps continue the circulation. Occasionally water is added due to evaporation. The Snail Wet Trap System is environmentally the best shooting range system available, protecting shooters and range personnel worldwide. The Automatic Bullet Retrieval System (ABRS) will eliminate handling of rounds. The belt conveyor system collects and transports spent rounds to a 55-gallon drum or other conveniently sized container. Whether wet or dry, Savage Range Systems are the considered the most enviromentally safe shooting ranges available.
